I never really thought I would get COD, but after getting the COD 5 Zombies app on my iPod, I thought I would, for the zombies. After playing it, though, I really enjoyed it. I like the concept of the zombies, and it’s really good fun, although I hope there are going to be more maps after Ascension, because three isn’t really enough. The online is good aswell, with a huge range of game modes and maps.
I personally never really liked Black Ops multiplayer. The concept of the killstreaks, the different game modes, and the custom classes, and a new addition with Black Ops, Theater mode, but, unlike my current favourite first person shooter, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, it lacks realism. I was able to enjoy a good few weeks on multiplayer, but after that I quickly got bored. The Black Ops maps are too small, the weapons are too advanced for a game set in the vietnam war, and the in-game sounds are not quite right, to name a few things. These are a few reasons why I prefer the Zombies mode. Firstly, it is just more fun than playing multiplayer. Also, weirdly, there is more of an objective. I know that in multiplayer there are various different game modes and objectives, but in Zombies mode there is something to work for, the entire time. The whole aspect of 4 players fighting to survive for as long as possible is a really great idea Call Of Duty have come up with, and in my opinion, is the best idea that they have come up with. There is also a story-line behind Zombies, but I won’t go into that, but do look it up. There was a lot of complaining when Black Ops first came out that it wasn’t as good as Modern Warfare 2, and, although I have only played MW2 a few times, I agree with. The level of graphic have pretty much stayed the same since MW2, and the gameplay is also very similar. All in all, Treyarch could have done a lot more with this game. I personally am not a huge CoD fan, but other people with different views may think otherwise that this game could have been better. My rating, therefore, is going to be 7/10. DayZ is a modification for the game Arma 2 and the expansion Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. The mod is currently free and in its alpha stage. It is a 225 km squared open-world survival game set in a land called Chernarus. During your time there you will encounter many things trying to end your life, such as zombies, or Zeds, hunger, thirst, infection, and the most dangerous yet potentially life-saving, your fellow human beings.
I was first introduced to DayZ by a friend. After watching a video on it, we realised that this was the game we had always wanted: a zombie-style open-world game where the goal was to survive. I spent the rest of the evening watching videos of it until I couldn’t wait any longer and bought Arma 2 and the expansion. Anyone who is remotely good at DayZ will tell you that you will almost certainly spend your first few lives learning how the game works. I know I did. Once past this stage, things start to get exciting. You will meet a player for the first time, and it will probably end in your death. You might be lucky enough to find a tent and begin to construct a camp for you and your friends. You will probably then get a bit cocky, go to an airfield, and wind up dead again. No matter. Lessons will be learnt. This game is not about winning; this game is about living in the moment, feeling the fear of imminent death or the excitement of finding your first vehicle. For me, DayZ is the most thrilling and also stressful and nerve-wracking game I have ever player; no matter where I am in the map, I do not feel safe. This is what makes it so great to play. It feels real. Great, you unlocked a new gun in Battlefield. Now what? Most of the time when I D/C from DayZ I am shaking slightly from the adrenaline. I am yet to find a game that can do that. Now before anyone starts complaining, this game is in alpha. There will be bugs. There will be glitches. There will be kids trying to spoil the fun and there will be hackers. I for one have experienced all four of those. However it is not something to put you off this game. Every time I log in I know that there is a chance someone has spawned in a fighter jet and is bombing the whole of Chernarus, or that my tent full of goodies has been swallowed by a server restart. Someone could, and has in the past, teleport every player to a makeshift arena called the Thunderdome and demanded we fight to the death. Before you are put off, I survived. I left with more than I went with. Anyway, back to the point. Buying Arma 2 just for DayZ, in my opinion, is so worth it. I have played roughly sixty hours, and each one is an hour well spent. If you don’t want to, though, and it is a shame if you don’t, then the standalone version of DayZ being scheduled for Christmas. I am not absolutely certain of this, but it is probably not far away. DayZ, even in its glitch state of alpha, is worth at least a 9.5/10. This includes the hacking, exploits, glitches and bugs. I may have increased the scale when the standalone is released. This game is one I would strongly recommend to anyone. Oh, and that guy shooting in Cherno is not friendly. A different yet wondrous and visually gorgeous version of the Cinderella story where YOUR decisions decide how the story unfolds
Cinders A Visual Novel Game Review developed by: MoaCube Notice: Interview with the developer at the end of the review (I really think yall should check it out. The answers were really interesting) What exactly is a visual novel game: It is like a comic, story, or manga book where the story branches out depending on the choices you make on certain scenarios. How the main characters story unfolds literally depends on you. There is usually multiple endings and many outcomes so there is a high replay value. I recently just discovered this genre and I got really hooked into it but I only found very few that are actually good in terms of story and art. Actually, aside from Cinders, all the ones that I found were anime-styled otome games Note: the big and well known otome games are mostly in japanese so fans usually translate, create, and share an English patch for them. Otome games are also visual novel games, the only difference is that otome usually targets the female population and has a story that ends up in a romantic relationship between your character and other possible 2D hotties (Cinders also have different possible hunks she can end up with but it’s not the main purpose or story of the game). However, it seems like the developers of many famous otome games tend to create funny yet heartbreaking stories. I teared up on the visual novels/otome games I played from laughter and tragedy. Sadly, there’s really only a handful of good ones in terms of character depth and story development. What got me interested in Cinders: I was searching for something different from games I usually played (Shooting, mmorpg, etc.). As I mentioned, I recently discovered the visual novel genre, but after playing some, I started to look for a visual novel that stands out from the rest. Many of the sites I stumbled upon were praising Cinders so I gave it a try. First of all, I really love the pre-Disney versions of popular fairy tales of today. I actually like the Grimm Brothers version, the ones before they had to tone it down for the younger audience. Having said that, I saw that Cinders was a version that’s far from Disney’s version so I got intrigued. Then I saw the beautiful art style, and it immediately took me back to my childhood. I used to have this huge (and expensive) story book that had the revised versions of fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers (it’s the toned down versions that I mentioned earlier), however, Cinders art is much more intricate and magical. I was pretty much hooked in after that. |
